The first Chamber Winds Ensemble concert of the season was held on Oct. 23 in the Brandt Black Box theatre and featured a more intimate experience than most band concerts by featuring groups of 3-6 players instead of the customary full orchestra on a single stage.
“It’s generally one to a part and they’re very exposed,” Teacher and Director of Bands Evan Rogovin said. “They have to do well in their performances, because they can’t hide like they can in a larger orchestra.”
Students embraced the freedom that performing in small groups allowed.
“I like it because it gives us the ability to be independent and explore musical outlets on our own without the parameters of a large ensemble.” band junior Triton Payne said.
While in the past, the show had also featured percussion instruments, this year the show only featured brass and wind instruments playing arrangements of “Sea Foam from The Sea” by John Gibson and “If Thou Be Near” by J.S. Bach.
