Students got into the holiday spirit when they attended the morning dress rehearsal for Prism, the largest music event Dreyfoos hosts, on Dec. 2 in the Kravis Center.
“It is an interesting and fun event that is enjoyable at all ages,” strings junior Bezerra-Gastesi said. “Also, the audience gets to hear the different shades of music. Every type of instrument sounds different and the listener gets to experience all of these shades.”
Tickets for Prism sold out approximately 15 minutes after they went on sale, according to vocal junior Amber Moeckel. The dress rehearsal allowed people who would not normally get the chance to attend the prestigious show to see music majors in action. People who went to the rehearsal were not limited to Dreyfoos students and staff – students from multiple schools, including Bak Middle School of the Arts, attended the event.
“[It’s noteworthy that students from multiple schools attended the Prism dress rehearsal] because they’re able to experience the Dreyfoos music department in a professional setting,” Moeckel said.
Prism is a holiday-themed concert that is held in the Kravis Center thanks to a donation from bestselling author James Patterson. Iconic winter pieces such as “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Sleigh Ride” were performed. Music students – band, strings, piano, and vocal majors – from every grade level came together to put on an exciting performance. Highlights include an opening performance of the theme from “The Chronicles of Narnia” and a finale where many students performed “Let There Be Peace on Earth” while a montage of music majors hard at work practicing was shown on a screen overhead.
“The best part of Prism is the last song when everyone comes out and takes a bow together,” Bezerra-Gastesi said. “It shows that all the parts of the music department contribute to this huge show equally and that everyone puts their hearts and souls into this show to make it fantastic.”
The official Prism concert took place on the evening of Dec. 2. Students in Prism attended two Kravis Center rehearsals and two after-school rehearsals on campus, and also spent long amounts of time practicing at home and in class to make Prism an exciting and festive concert.
