While many of Dreyfoos’ students spent Friday, Jan. 29, at the
Homecoming dance held in the gym, visual junior Maxwell Zengage spent that night selling art and gourmet food under the twinkling lights of The Bistro food truck’s grand opening.
“Our dear friend and mastermind artist, Chris O’Hare, designed and built the truck for my mother, [Simone Mehlbaum,] to grow her cooking business,” Zengage said. “Some neighbors and I helped prepare for the grand opening.”
The event was held at Pineapple Grove Designs and Copperpoint Brewery in Boynton Beach between 5-10 p.m., and featured Indonesian, Dutch, vegan, vegetarian, and other entrees for guests to choose from.
“ Indonesian chicken and crab cakes were the most popular [food] items, yet all the food was sold out by the end of the night,” Zengage said.
Students and local artists also used the truck’s opening as an opportunity to sell their art, which was modeled after Sailfish Marina’s art night.
“Anyone who wished to sell art set up a table and displayed their work,” Zengage said. “Not much art sold during the event, as the focus was mostly on the food, but the artists earned what they sold. ”
With almost 200 people in attendance, a DJ, and gourmet food, it seems that Zengage didn’t miss out too much on skipping Homecoming for the truck’s opening.
“The evening was very successful. We plan on hosting a night of food, music, and art once a month, ” Zengage said.
