For the past few weeks, Dreyfoos students have worked hard to compete in the Commissioners’ Academic Challenge, a prestigious trivia competition. The team, with visual senior Charlie Krumholz as team captain and social studies teacher Sarah Stout as coach, walked away with first place. Schools from across the county gathered to compete at the competition held at the Education Network in Boynton,
“It was a great experience,” communications senior Jarrod Carman said. “This competition isn’t just about speed, it’s about confidence. We never answered any of the questions wrong.”
Preparing for the event took months of practice and dedication from each of the team members. This involved studying, taking practice tests, meeting outside of school and sacrificing lunches in order to do their best.
“Everyone was so prepared and smart,” communications junior Ximena Hasbach said. “It was a very stressful competition. We were surrounded by such math oriented schools such as Suncoast and Atlantic, but our background in the arts really helped us.”
Hours and hours of studying paid off in the final competition, which will be aired on the Education Network in the spring. One of the teammates, keyboard senior Michael Dinh, was selected to represent the county on an all star team for the music and arts categories. This competition will take place in Orlando in May.
“It was so much fun and a great experience and we’re so proud of Michael.” Hasbach said.
