On Feb. 21, U.S. Congressman Ted Deutch met with members of the Young Politicians of America club and math teacher Norman Adams’ AP Microeconomics students in the media center during third period. Congressman Deutch spoke about how he got involved in politics and his progression from political insider to Congressman.
“It was fantastic having Congressman Deutch come and speak to us,” communications senior Tess Saperstein said. “You can only get so much information from the news. I loved getting a firsthand account of how the government and politicians work.”
Congressman Deutch opened the floor to questions after his speech. He addressed issues such a standardized testing, minimum wage, immigration and a “Do-Nothing Congress.”
The event, however, was less a formal affair and more of a relaxed conversation. Topics ranged from Netflix sensation “House of Cards” all the way to the outcome of the previous night’s Miami Heat basketball game.
