As of late this afternoon Dreyfoos has fallen prey to another cyber scandal that has quickly snowballed into profane accusations and what can be interpreted as direct instances of cyber bullying. This was prompted by the cancellation of what was expected to be a mass after party for Saturday’s Prom festivities. After receiving parental concerns about the party, a series of students are reported to have been called down by administration for questioning which later resulted in the official cancellation the event. Sudden heated reactions to the cancellation and other rumors developed into targeted backlash, general dissent and other public outbursts facilitated by Twitter.
This chaos is not the first of its kind at Dreyfoos, with similar reactions coming from the XOXODreyfoos Instagram account and the Spirit Week finale delay. Previously both instances resulted in action from administration against those involved in some of the confirmed acts of cyber bullying. Since these events, however, many students have adapted their public tweets to a mix of irony, anonymity and double entendres in attempts to evade administrative charges of direct cyber bullying.
Confirmation on further administrative involvement, and the effect of these public reactions on Prom have not yet been disclosed.
