The number pi (π) is 3.14 and is a special number used in circular geometry and associated mathematical functions. Because 3.14 is one of the most important numbers in mathematics, March 14, the date that corresponds to 3.14, is celebrated as pi day. The Math Honor Society (MHS), held a pi day celebration on Mar. 14, 2017.
For two dollars, MHS allowed a student to throw a pie at one of five teachers: science dean Stephen Anand, math teacher Craig Adams, social studies teacher Javier Mora, communications teacher Christine Tieche, and social studies teacher Thomas Ruth. The event was held during lunch on the soccer field and included music.
“The reason I pied Mr. Mora was because I have known him before he started teaching here at this school,” communications freshman Sophia Pregadio said. “I thought it would be really funny to see pie in his face.”
