The dance department held their annual Senior Solo Showcase Friday, Sept. 20 in the Brandt Black Box Theater. This year was the first showcase that all dance seniors participated in with a total of 31 solos.
Some dancers choreographed their own pieces, while others outsourced choreography from teachers, choreographers, or fellow dance seniors. According to the National Honor Society of Dance Arts (NHSDA) vice president and dance senior Francesca Wisniew and the NHSDA historian and dance senior Mia Parra-Grisolia, for some dancers, this showcase marks one of their last solo performances at the school.
“It feels like I just got off a roller coaster,” dance senior Gabriella Betancourt, who performed a self-choreographed piece titled “Who’s Loving You,” said. “My adrenaline is so high while I dance, it’s almost like I’m not in control. Once I bow, it’s like I come back to reality.”
