The Muse is working to provide live team coverage of Hurricane Milton and its impacts on Palm Beach County. Check back for updates.
Hurricane Milton spawned 15 tornadoes which made their way through South Florida Oct. 9, impacting communities in Palm Beach County, including The Acreage, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter Farms, and Wellington.
Some students faced damage to their homes, the homes of their friends and family, or the homes of members in their community.
“It (a tornado) knocked down some of the trees in my neighborhood and the neighborhood across the street from me,” communications senior Olivia McGoldrick said. “Many houses had their roofs blown off and their windows cracked.”
Areas in the western part of Palm Beach County were impacted by the tornadoes, with many experiencing property damage to their homes, according to The Palm Beach Post.
“I was driving through Loxahatchee, and I saw a lot of damage done,” dance sophomore Amyah Wallace said. “The fences and many branches and trees (were) messed up.”
While neighborhoods in the western part of the county experienced tornadoes, coastal areas felt impacts from the flooding due to the rain of Hurricane Milton.
“My community did not face any severe damage. Although, with the Intracoastal nearby, the streets were easily flooded and had a few inches of rainwater,” dance sophomore Emery Johnson said.
This is a developing story.
