It can be hard to recognize a sports dynasty in the making, especially from the bleachers. The teachers have held the “champion” title for the past two years and say that they are “confident” in making those three. But, in examining what has put this ensemble of educators on a winning streak, look to one man. Rather, the one with the man-bun named Joshua Millstein, the girl’s basketball coach and math teacher.
“He does quite a lot from a basketball perspective, but he also gives us insight about the current players,” assistant principal William Clark said. “As staff, we get to watch our student-athletes play and see their strengths and weaknesses.”

After coaching the Lady Jaguars basketball team with drills and conditioning earlier this year, Millstein went for a different approach with his colleagues: no practice.
“We don’t actually practice as teachers,” Millstein said in a post-game interview. “For some reason, we all just connected and wanted to prove we all still got it together. Clearly, we do.”
The final score on the time clock showed a 37-35 win, but the teachers created as much as a 14-point gap in the first half. Regardless, band senior Summer Irwin thanks her coach and believes this game brings the school together no matter who triumphs.

“It’s always really fun to [be a part of the game],” Irwin said. “Everyone is always so supportive of each other like with the bench standing and cheering after a good play, but (there is) still the same competitiveness. The community we have built as Dreyfoos basketball is really special, and I think this is when everyone gets to see that.”
