In an interval drill, students run at a challenging pace for a total of three miles. In the average interval drill, the first mile is a sprint, the second mile is a jog and the third mile is a sprint. The amount of time students gives themselves each mile determines their pace. For example, a student will set a goal of under nine minutes for the first mile, under 15 minutes for the second mile and under eight minutes for the third mile, resulting in a maximum time of 30 minutes.
“The time it takes to complete [an interval drill] is different for each person. It depends on each person’s level,” communications junior Naomi Kelly said. “This drill builds endurance and helps [athletes] develop a strong finish.”
