Sporting a Santa hat given to her by the ARTS Club, a little girl finishes unwrapping her present during the Jefferson Jubilee. Before the event, members of ARTS Club were assigned to buy toys and clothes for one child. The gifts the children received spanned from Lego sets to Barbie dolls and toy cars.

Staged in the back of the ensemble, trumpet players utilized a variety of trumpet mutes to amplify and augment their pitch and musical tone throughout different songs in the concert.

New assistant principal Drew Dawson supervises the cafeteria during lunch. Mr. Dawson’s duties on campus include lunch supervision, metal detector duty, and door-holder for building three during class changes. “It's a school where everyone seems to just welcome you and make you feel like you're a part of the culture and a part of the school,” Mr. Dawson said. “I just feel like everyone has a place here, and that's really cool.”
A New Dawn for Dawson
Bringing Christmas to South Florida: On Nov 2. The Ben Marriott Autograph Collection opened South Florida's first outdoor skating rink. From the hotel's top floor, there is a view of the hundreds of people who visit throughout the day to participate in this winter activity.
West Palm’s Winter Wonderland
The donations received for Dona Por Amor include clothes, non-perishable foods, and more. Once the donation window ends, the items will be organized into groups based on the type of donation and packed into boxes. Spanish teacher Lori Brown explained that shipments going into countries with political turmoil, like Venezuela, often get stolen in the process. To combat this, the boxes will be dropped off at a non-profit organization that brings the boxes directly to Venezuela, ensuring the safety of the items.

Speaking with Principal Blake Bennett, visual senior Thomas Diaz explains the meaning behind his artwork. On Jan. 10 during lunch, Diaz had his art pieces exhibited in a solo show in the Building 9 gallery in recognition of his creations throughout the year. “It makes me feel very proud of myself because I work really hard, long hours after school,” Diaz said. “It also makes me inspired and hopeful that other people would do the same and want to show their own work. I think there's a lot of very amazing artists in the department that would really benefit from doing a show like this. It really just makes me feel connected to the community.”

Reading out loud, dance junior Jillian Homeier holds up a book to assist a preschooler. Books were just one of the gifts that all children received; other gifts, including clothes, toys, and games, were taken home by the children. The ARTS Club manages this Jefferson Jubilee event off of school and community involvement by asking ARTS Club members to donate Christmas gifts and buy clothes for their assigned kid.

This surprise performance in the cafeteria aimed to promote the upcoming musical and showcase the work and time students put into the musical. “The experience is so much fun, getting to make up all the dances with (theatre teacher Sandra) Christie, assisting her, and helping anyone who has questions,” Gianetti said.

Looking at the phlebotomist, dance junior Finleigh Townsend gets blood drawn for her first time. On Oct. 16, National Honor Society (NHS) held its blood drive in the school parking lot. Oneblood Donation and its Big Red Bus visited the school campus to find volunteers for blood and plasma donations. Their mission is to replenish and maintain a healthy blood supply in the community. “It makes you feel really good to have had an impact on so many people by doing something that didn't take much time and didn't hurt me at all,” said Townsend.

On Oct. 1, the music department held its first band performance of the year in Meyer Hall. “After not getting to play in front of people all summer, it was refreshing to be back on a stage with an audience and with my band family,” band sophomore Luna Schneider said.

Giselle Fernandez-Perez is a first-year and coverage staffer on The Muse. Other than The Muse, Giselle takes film and enjoys creative writing in her free time. She is bilingual; she speaks English and Spanish and is learning French. She loves to travel, meet new people, and hang out with her best friends. She looks forward to her time on The Muse.

Dressed as a psych ward patient to scare students in the haunted house, band sophomore Hinav Kour Ahmad jumps out and screams at theatre junior Reese McCobb. After studying film and dramatics at the University of Southern California, Dreyfoos alumnus and former communications major Tommy McCabe now works as an artist-in-residence, assisting communications teacher Ruby Hernandez in teaching students film production. “It was just something that interested me, the opportunity to come back here and work with young minds and kind of see the trajectory of where art is going,” Mr. McCabe said.
