Chick-Fil-A has replaced its unsuccessful coleslaw with kale. This implementation of kale is an effort to bring in more customers who look for healthy alternatives to ordinary Chick-Fil-A sides. Dreyfoos students frequent the Chick-Fil-A on Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. Now, many can bring their health-obsessed friends.
“I used to get the 12-count nugget meal with coleslaw and a regular beverage. When I realized Chick-Fil-A replaced the coleslaw with kale, I was surprised,” vocal senior Alisha Bryant said. ”I tasted it, and I’m now in love with it.”
A medium Chick-Fil-A coleslaw contains 360 calories, 31 grams of total fat, and 16 grams of sugar, which in total require an hour and 30 minutes of walking to burn off. On the other hand, a medium superfood side of kale contains 140 calories, seven grams of fat, and 11 grams of sugar. Burning off kale would take a 30-minute walk, which can be easily done after school, after work, or early in the morning.
“We pretty much changed from coleslaw to the kale superfood because of health reasons,” Kathy Morris, Okeechobee and Turnpike Chick-Fil-A Director, said.
Health freaks can now join the Chick-Fil-A franchise without second-guessing their side dishes.
