Heading into week two of football season, many fantasy players are nervous for certain players like Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley or Seattle Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls. In week two, Gurley and Rawls played awful once again, and more star running backs were injured. Players like Tampa Bay Buccaneers Doug Martin, Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson, and San Diego Chargers Danny Woodhead all ended the week with severe injuries, and will be out for a large chunk of the season. Owning one of these players could cause a major setback for fantasy teams, but hopefully my advice below can help find a solid replacement.
Sleepers for week three:
With the Minnesota Vikings’ Peterson facing a tear in his meniscus, there will need to be a running back who can step up. Most fantasy players would jump on the opportunity to snag Jared Mckinnon, who is listed as Peterson’s official backup. However, Matt Asiata, the third string running back has the potential to outshine Mckinnon with his physical frame and great goal line carry percentage. Definitely take the chance on Asiata for the upcoming weeks as long as Peterson remains out.
The Houstons Texan offense looks rejuvenated, and with that comes a new star by the name of Will Fuller. Fuller plays wide receiver and was known as a player who had great potential coming into the league, and now after two weeks of consistent dominance has proven he has the ability to play at a high level consistently in the NFL (National Football League.) If Fuller is available in any leagues, be sure to take advantage of him, and pick him up as soon as possible.
The Baltimore Ravens have struggled in the past to find a solid offensive player. Quarterback Joe Flacco has returned from injury, and is looking as good as he used to. This year, however, he may have found himself his new favorite target. Wide receiver Mike Wallace has now caught a touchdown in both week one and week two, including two touchdowns in week two. Wallace is speedy and is able to break through the secondary of the opposing team relatively easily. Wallace won’t be available soon, be sure to take advantage of the opportunity he provides.
While there were plenty of players who shined in week two, there were also some who managed to worsen their reputation, and played so poorly it convinced many fantasy players to drop them or give up on them.
Busts:
Coming into the season, there were high expectations for Chicago Bears running back Jeremy Langford. However, to follow up an average performance in week one, Langford played sluggish and lazy in week two, losing a fumble and only gaining 28 total yards. Beware of Langford in future match ups and don’t be afraid to trade him to other teams.
The Denver Broncos once dominant wide receiver unit has seemed to crumble, and in the midst of that is Emmanuel Sanders. Sanders is a speedy and very athletic wide receiver. However, with a new quarterback his target has reduced steadily and he is putting up low numbers. Stay away from Sanders in the upcoming games for this season.
Green Bay Packers were once a team to be feared in terms of their run game. However, running back Eddie Lacy embodies the opposite of intimidation and has started off this year with an extremely slow pace. Lacy has continued to gain weight, despite the rumors that he has finally lost what he needed to. The weight is causing him to lose speed and in turn, his performance has been affected. Lacy will cause major headaches in the future. Be sure to leave him on the bench until he proves his capability.
Have fun with week three of football, and watch out for next week’s sleepers and busts.
