For five days in the school year, our school manages to exceed our regular Dreyfoos Magic and amp up our school spirit even more. Students are able to participate in events during lunch, dressing up based on their class’ theme for each day. As the week continues, the class with the most points wins.
The following is a list of ways to show up for the A.R.T.S. and demonstrate an exceptional level of school spirit (AKA Dreyfoos Magic)!
- Dress up!
Dressing up for Spirit Week is the most substantial aspect of this week. Unlike some other schools, the majority of our school’s population takes dressing up to a serious extent. The more people within a grade who dress up, the more points the class earns. Holiday Day marks the beginning of the week with Class Clique Day, Generations Day, Music Genre Day, and Class Color Day following. On Class Color Day, also Pep Rally Day, the seniors wear black, the juniors wear red, the sophomores wear green, and the freshmen wear blue. Make sure to stay updated on what each dress-up theme means for your class.
- Play games!
Almost every day during lunch has some sort of game aspect either in the gymnasium or out on the field. These games include but are not limited to a Spikeball Tournament, musical chairs, queens request, and hungry hippos.
- Be LOUD!
In order to show support for your classmates, make sure to make some noise to enhance the energy and spirit of the space during each of the games and dances. SGA co-presidents vocal senior Ben Levkovitz and communications senior Dylan Nguyen emcee the events at lunch. Make sure to yell out the last two digits of your graduating class when they yell 20’.
- Post on social media!
If you are active on social media, make sure to take tons of pictures with your friends during the week and post them online. Also, tag your class’ and SGA’s social media handle, so they can repost it. Not only does this heighten your spirit and your grade’s unity, but it creates memories that will last a lifetime.
- Participate in the Dances/Powderpuff!
There are two different dances that you can perform in throughout the week: the Generations Dance and the Pep Rally Dance. Both of them are fully choreographed and performed by students. You can also participate in Powderpuff, an all-guy cheerleading routine. These events begin rehearsals plenty of weeks in advance. If you missed out on those, still make sure to show up and support them at lunch.
Make sure to follow these tips to make the most out of the week. Ultimately, the most important part of Spirit Week is to have fun and form a memorable high school experience.
